Total Expenses

Now look at your total monthly and annual expenses. Compare that to the number next to “living expenses” in the first chart. You should have a pretty good idea whether or not you are handling your finances properly. If your total expenses dwarf your living expenses, you need some massive change. If it’s close, then you’re in for an easy fix. And if your total expenses are actually less than your living expenses, then congratulations!

You’re probably reading this book because your actual expenses are greater than your budgeted living expenses. Take a few minutes to run through your itemized list and circle the ones that can change. Pray about each one— even your income. If you’ll take this exercise seriously, you will be on the path to the Land of Plenty.
